Dear Ladies, moms, grandma's, soon to be mom's, someday mom's, anyone, etc...
I've been so blessed to be 31 weeks pregnant and realizing that just around the corner this little one is soon to be in my arms. That thought alone gives me butterflies. But I'm not going to lie...I'm a little scared, maybe feeling a bit unprepared. Don't get me wrong I'm so excited and have been dreaming of the day to become a mom. Going to my midwife and hearing her little heartbeat makes me feel at ease, her little kicks shows me that she is here saying hi to me, I have been crying watching commercials with babies and I get very emotional even thinking of the day when I see her little face.
What I'm feeling unprepared about is the unknown which hopefully I'll take in stride. I know I have so much to learn and need patience with myself... letting myself make a few mistakes here and there. Those things I know I will learn as they come but today maybe I can get some help with some other things.
So I've been overwhelmed at all the baby "gear." Looking online or at the stores leaves me well confused and more confused. Today my plea to all you ladies who have been through it or seen it, thought it, etc is what do I need? What strollers, car seats, baby wraps, must have item, lotions, clothes for me and the babe, face wash so my face can become normal again, etc, etc...last night I got together with my amazing friends (pictures to come) and they gave me a lot of advice which I need to hear again, need to write it down and plan it out. So here's my plea..one little pregnant mama to the next. What do you think?
Sincerely,
Whitney

Baby gear is highly overrated. (Think of all the babies in the world over all the centuries that turned into fine human beings without a "Bob.") Babies just need your love and your time—the gear is for the parents.
I agree with Oma -- babies are fine without all the doodads. Here are some things that made MY life better in the early months:
Paper plates/cups/utensils
Always Infinity Heavy pads
Lansinoh nursing pads
Restaurant gift cards and take-out menus
Comfortable and supportive nursing bras (I like the Medela ones)
Bouncer seat or swing (this is one "doodad" I wouldn't do without)
Pump and bottles (call me)
Oh thank you ladies!! I agree Marty babies just need some little lovin' and our time which she will get for sure!
jamey's favorite toys were grama maude's empty wooden spool's of thread. he loved stacking them like blocks and banging them together. we feel like we have to give everything to these little one's when it is really just the simple things that are the best. mostly the love of their mother.
whit, yes lots of love is number one! but you already know that. you're right, there are so many options for baby gear, i get overwhelmed with the choices too! luckily you can see what you need and get it as you go..
here are a few things i loved:
the snap n' go stroller, super lightweight and handy
the Bob jogging stroller
lots of blankets for swaddling
burp cloths!
a bouncer or bumbo comes in handy
pack n' play for travel!!
black out curtains (i got cheap black felt from wal-mart and velcro it to the windows. am still doing it for benji's naps!!! it's my secret weapon. i would throw them inside the pack n' play when we went out of town too!)
a comfy rocker, lots of good movies for nursing late at nights!
a good baby / doctor book to look up rashes or other strange things that you need advice on.
little mitts for their hands (they scratch themselves)
a light up or musical mobile, babes love those and can entertain themselves while you shower!!
am sure i'll think up some more little baby gadgets.
xo.
you will always have more than you need. Since it will be warm you will probably only have to put her in onsies and nightgowns for awhile. night gowns are the best, you don't need to do up buttons.
My hubby was huge help so cooking and cleaning wasn't a problem for me. I love and used the following more than anything"
swing
bumbo
boppy
swaddler (with velcro)
bassinet (borrow one if you can...I had one and sold it *shoot)
sling (i used lucky baby and ergo)
AND take your own close to the hospital...ones that you won't mind so much getting a bit dirty and also easy for your nurse, dr, midwife to check you.
I also brought my ipod with my yoga music during birth...I hypnobirthed with my last baby it was amazing.
everything else you can get as time goes on and you figure out what you really need
